A day at the park.

Yesterday was the kind of day that makes life great. First of all, I got an hour and a half nap. wahooo! Then it was off to the park for a picnic. There was a beautiful stream with old trees lining it, and a quaint little bridge joining the two banks. Luckily, I had my camera. My boys are now playing together, and It makes life so much easier!
Westley just has this insatiable zest for life that is just contagious.

Whatever he is doing, he does with the intensity of four boys. (fun, yet exhausting.) Miles is just content to be.
He loves some good food, and just to be a part of all the action that Westley creates. One of Westley's great qualities that I hope he will always posses, is his ability to quote movies. I don't know if any of you have seen the commercial by JG Wentworth with everyone sticking their heads out their window and yelling "it my money, and I need it now!" We were driving home yesterday, and Westley randomly yells that out. Of course we all start laughing, and then Miles feels like he needs to be in on the action, so he yells his version. "...net now!" He doesn't have quite the vocab that Wes does, but we certainly could tell he was just trying to copy his big brother! priceless. I love these boys.

The 4th

This will probably by my fastest turn-around time for posting pics. Brad and I decided not to brave the crowds down by the river this year. Instead, we watched the fireworks from our deck. If I didn't have kids, I think I would like to be closer, but when everybody else was dodging traffic...we were in bed asleep. Nice.

who's idea was this anyway?

As with the rest of America, we decided to go camping last weekend...

It actually would have went pretty well had I not had such a bad cold. I don't know how the others feel about the trip, but considering there was 6 adults and 5 kids...it was probably a success.
The bummer about it for me was, I have this terrible curse of not being able to sleep with my mouth open. I have to have it closed, and since I had a cold, there was nothing gettin through these nostrils! It actually stems from a childhood fear of swallowing a spider in my sleep. Regardless of its origin, it plagues me about 3 times of year. Anyways. We got a late start due to some construction, but got there and set up camp. It got freezing that night, but I think I was the only one who felt it. The next day we took the ATV's to a lake where someone could have seriously made a horror movie from titled "killer mosquito's." Seriously, I should have taken pics, but Wes looked like he had chicken pox after we got home...and that was with bug spray!

Well, Brad and Tiffany were the only ones brave enough to endure the glacier cold water and go off the rope swing! I just want to give a wahoo for my little sister. She can get so cranky, but she sure knows how to have a good time. I just love that she's always up for anything, and she sure can be the life of a party. A quality I definitely admire. love ya sis.(now we just need to work on her camping skills;)

On our way back from the lake we stopped to admire the view. I love Idaho.

Home sweet home

I often get comments like "How in the world can you leave your kids to go on vaction?!" Not always...but there is often an undertone of "I would never." Well, my answer is this. I want to be a better mom and wife.

Before we leave, Brad and I are often not much more than roommates. Kids and life are draining. fun, but draining. Before vacation, I'm not nearly as patient and loving as I know I can be.

After we come back, Brad and I have had time to draw close again, experience life's blessings more, and I am amazingly more in love with my kids. All of a sudden, I have new patience and ideas and more desire to be the best mom I can be.

I think we owe it to ourselves, our husbands, and our kids to take some sort of break. Here's a few pics of us enjoying our babies upon returning home.

Overload

So I've gotten so far behind that I don't even know where to start. Half of my problem is...I don't feel confident enough to blog about our trip to Panama because I couldn't do near as good a job at blogging a trip as Anna Connelly! No joke. silly ain't it Anna! So I'm not even gonna try. Here's lots of pics and some fun memories.

Of course going to Panama, we had to stop and see....the Panama Canal. For some reason I thought it was just a long canal dug through the place, but it's not. As you can see in the picture, it's a series of locks that ships go through. We learned that all ship building specifications are that of which to fit through the Panama Canal. Captains have to pay $50,000 just to pass through the locks. The gates that you see in these pics are the original gates put on there around 1920's (If I remember right). They say that it takes less time to empty one lock out so the boat can pass through than it does to fill your bathtub (about 8 minutes). It was pretty interesting.

Next we landed ourselves in a place called "Portobello." If anyones ever heard about Brad and I's travels, they know we don't like the normal "touristy" areas. So pretty much everywhere we went we had the locals staring at us.

The door to the room we stayed at.

This cute little dock was right outside our door.

The town of Portobello was nestled in a cove, and on both sides of the cove were the ruins of their defense structures. Whenever unwelcomed visitors came they would receive cannon blasts from both sides.

Next we went to a nearby island called "Isla Grande." It was a bit more apt to receiving visitors. We did a little snorkling there and had a guy that looked like a younger Morgan Freeman take us on a little tour around the island.

(doesn't he?)

In researching what we wanted to do on our trip, we found out that a place you don't want to miss when going to Panama is the San Blas Islands. So after Portobello we made our way to a town called Miramar. We asked the locals if someone could take us in their boat to The San Blas Islands. We found ourselves in a little boat for a two hour ride into the ocean. There are approximately 400 islands that make up San Blas, and most are uninhabited. There are a few however, that are, and their residents are called the "Kuna Yala" indians. It was pretty interesting, when we first arrived, we weren't exactly sure what we had gotten ourselves into because there was only one place to stay on the island of Por Venir (where we were) however, it did include electricity...that is until dark, when they turned the generator off. There was a little runway for a small airplane to land and that was pretty much it. We made ourselves at home, for dinner, the options were pulpo(octopus), Pescado(fish), or pollo(chicken). Pulpo was out of the question, and we didn't see any pollos runnin around, so we decided our safest bet was the fish. So that's what we had for the next three meals.

We asked asked one of the locals to take us around to the neighboring island to have a look around. He first took us to an island called "Wichub Wala." There were about 400 people living primitavely on the island. We walked around for a while and whenever we snapped a picture, we were met with a hand asking for $1.

After a sweltering night with chirping geckos climbing all over our walls, we climbed into a little boat again to check out some of the other islands. On our way to "Isla Perro" there was a torrential downpour.> Our guide was bailing water out of the boat while trying to navigate to the island that only moments before was in plain sight. The rain only lasted a few minutes and then we were safely there. Isla Perro was awesome. There was just one family that lived there, and they shared their coconut drinks with us while we walked the beach and snorkeled the nearby ship wreck.

You can see the snorkel lines on my face in both these pics

Here's the ship wreck

One of the funnest aspects of the trip was that we didn't go alone. This is the first vacation that Brad and I have taken with someone else and it was great. As you can see in some of the pics, that Brads little brother Sheldon, and his new wife Shae, came with us. We also had another couple with us, Darrell and his wife Joanne. They aren't as young as we are and still kept up with our every move....they were troopers.

By the end of the trip, we were exhausted.

On our last day, we went on a little hike in the rain forest, and when we got to the top, there was a look out area where we got a fantastic surprise.

We couldn't have found the temple on the ground if we had tried, but here, on top of the world, it was a beautiful sight. It was a great conclusion to an awesome week.

The boys ended the week with a toast

Fathers Day

I want to say a few words to the fathers in my life.

Dad. I'm very grateful for the relationship that we are continuing to build month by month. I can see how hard you try to be a part of my life now and I really enjoy it. I love how well you play with my kids. We've never been super close and I can see the effort that you put into building relationships with your kids that you want to have. It really means a great deal. I admire the strength that you show at times when dealing with lifes hardships. Thanks.

Dad-in-law. My second Dad. I was truly blessed when I became a part of your family. Because of you I have an amazing husband. I am grateful for the love and support that you always show me when I need it. I don't quite have the words to express the hole that you fill in my heart. Thank you.

Husband. I knew when I married you that you would be a wonderful father. My little brother was not yet a year old and you were so loving to him. There are so many moments that illustrate your tenderness...like how you hysterically cry when each of our children have been born. Or how often you shower your boys with kisses because you just cant stand how cute they are. I think what sums it up best is how capeable you are of catching those "life is perfect" moments that only moms seem to be aware of. I've watched you tell stories to Wes at night and he just beems with excitement to have your attention, and Miles can't even stand the wait from when he knows your here, till when you get into the house. You are an incredible father and I love you for it.
